Area Information

Tangaer Holiday Cottage is situated in a lovely peaceful rural retreat only 3 miles from the University and market town of Lampeter, on the southern edge of the Cambrian Mountains and close to the Cardigan Bay Heritage Coastline.

Lampeter

The town has a selection of restaurants, two supermarkets and a number of small family run shops including an organic farm shop, a wholefood shop, several cafes, a fortnightly farmers market, great pubs, a swimming pool, children play areas, sports pitches, tennis courts and bowling green. Walk around the historic University with its fountain and lovely traditional buildings, dating back to 1822 it's the oldest University in Wales. 

Cardigan Bay Coastline

The cottage is only 16 miles from the beautiful Cardigan Bay Coastline, which boasts some of the finest beaches in Britain, many of which have achieved European Blue and Green Flag status for their quality. New Quay, Llangrannog, Cei Bach, Tresaith, Cwm Tudu and Penbryn beaches are all within a 45 minute drive. Given its importance to wildlife, Carigan Bay is designated a Special Area of Conservation and Special Protected Area (SPA). An abundance of wildlife can be spotted along the coastline including dolphins, seals and porpoises.   

 

There are plenty of picturesque small towns and villages along the Cardigan Bay Coast. Non more so than Aberaeron, a pretty Georgian resort, famous for its harbour and colourful houses, only a 20 minute drive from the cottage. 

Cambrian Mountains, the Teifi Valley, and Brecon Beacons National Park 

Located within the rural Teifi Valley and foothills of the Cambrian Mountains, whilst also only a 25 minute drive to the Brecon Beacons National Park, the cottage is perfectly situated for those who love the great outdoors.

There is an abundance of places to visit within this magnificent landscape, including: Devils Bridge Waterfalls and the Hafod Restaurant, Cors Caron Nature Reserve Boardwalk, Hafod Estate Walking Trails; Rheidol Steam Railway; Cennarth Falls; National Botanic Gardens; Aberglasney Gardens; National Trust sites at Dinefwr Park; Llanerchaeron and Dolaucothi Gold Mine; and many more places to see.   

 

 

Activities

Book a tour with Cambrian Landrover Safaris and discover the wild tranquillity of the Cambrian Mountains with an experienced driver. Or venture deep within historic metal mines that were once active within the Cambrian Mountains. Why not also explore the coastline by boat and view dolphins and seals in the wild.  

For the more energetic there are excellent family and advanced mountain bike cycle tracks at Brechfa Forest in the Cothi Valley, and also at Nant Yr Arian at Ponterwyd near Aberystwyth. Both sites have trails with varying degrees of difficulty. There is also a cycle path from Aberaeron to Llanerchaeron running inland along the Aeron Valley. Similarly, the Cors Caron cycling route which runs along the Cors Caron Nature Reserve near Tregaron.

Quad biking, coasteering, gorge walking; paddleboarding, white water canoeing, kayaking, dry ski-slope and boarding, fishing, pony trekking and golf are all within easy driving distance.  

For families with children, why not visit family theme parks such as Folly Farm; The Moody Calf Play Barn; Oakwood; Fantasy Farm.
